How to avoid bloating on a plane? 

Here are a few little tips to avoid digestive discomfort caused by air travel! 

  • Stay hydrated before and during your flight. ;   
  • Eat light foods on the flight (that are normally easy for you to digest); ;  
  • Be mindful of excess carbohydrates and fats (chips, nuts, sweets), which can already exacerbate digestive symptoms. ;  
  • Avoid carbonated drinks, bubbly drinks, sparkling water, alcohol, and caffeine; ; 
  • Have several snacks rather than full meals before departing; ; 
  • Limit fructose sources as much as possible (fruits, sweets, sodas) in the 24 hours before departure; ; 
  • If possible, please ensure you have had a bowel movement before departure.

What will be served on the plane?  

Airlines offer various meal options to passengers during flights. Check their menu and plan what you can eat, especially considering your health condition, sensitivities, and intolerances.  

Is it possible to bring your own snacks on a plane? 

Yes, but make sure to check airport regulations, customs procedures, international flight rules, etc. Otherwise, know that a variety of foods are permitted on board, as long as liquids do not exceed 100 ml (drinks, peanut butter, yogurt, milk, etc.).  

Here is a list of nutritious foods allowed in Canadian airports: 

  • Cereal bars / granola bars  
  • Crackers 
  • Nut  
  • Fresh fruits  
  • Vegetables 
  • Homemade muffins and pancakes 
  • Meat 
  • Hard or semi-firm cheese  
  • Cottage cheese, mozzarella 
  • Canned goods (liquid less than 100 ml. For example; tuna) 
  • Peanut butter or other nut butters  
  • Yogurt  
  • Protein powder  

However, once you arrive at your destination, depending on the country of arrival, any unconsumed items may be confiscated.
